MISSION

Who we are
GIS of Texas at Austin offers a full immersion German (early childhood) / bilingual German-English (elementary grades) program that is built around dual-language education, cultural competence, and cognitive development across all subjects. Our approach to learning is child-centered and inquiry-based. We promote a positive view of learning, curiosity, critical thinking, and a world-view that is broad and tolerant, placing a high value on the holistic development of each child, including social-emotional learning, creativity, and longterm global competence.
The school is supported by the German-Texan Heritage Society which lay the foundation of the public education system in Texas.
Our Mission
Supported by the research-backed principles of education in the US and Germany and through collaborative effort of the entire school community, it is our goal to provide students with the fundamental skills needed from their first steps into formal education through the elementary grades.
It is the primary goal of teachers at the German International School of Texas at Austin to observe, guide, and facilitate student' social interactions and other explorations of the physical and social world around them, as well as to create an environment that is welcoming and inspiring. Each student is recognized as an individual, each with their own personal interests and proclivities. Teachers offer the tools and guidance needed for the development of self-responsibility and confidence to become a co-creator with the human community, small and large.
